From when I started sewing in my early teens, up until a few years ago, my hometown had a fabricshop which I visited frequently. When the shop closed it was the time that real fabricshops were becoming very scarce and online shops were starting to bloom. I've done my fair bit of online shopping but it can NEVER replace the real deal. Looking directly at the fabric, seeing every detail of the fiber and the print. Feeling how soft, flimsy, sturdy, stretchy, warm or breezy it is. Stroking it lovingly whilst coming up with ideas for patterns you want to use for it. I miss it. Very much. That's why I'm so happy with the big fabricmarkets that are organised twice a year, in spring and fall.
Last spring I had my hopes set on the fabric market that was to be held on the 18th of March, only half an hour's drive away from my home. Well, as you probably already guessed: it all fell through because of covid-19.
In september however, when things were starting to look up a bit, a market was organized in which all Corona-measures were taken into account. I really wanted to go but had decided that if it wouldn't feel safe, I would turn around in an instant and go home. But there was no need for that. It was organized very well. You had to reserve a ticket online to get inside, so the number of people inside were limited. There were timeslots but I was lucky that when my timeslot had almost finished, they announced that due to few tickets sold for the next hours, the people inside were allowed to stay till closing time. You could walk around very safely, and so I did and spent some time ánd money there.
After that I was the happy owner of 11 pieces of fabric, all bought with a plan in mind. (The picture above shows 10 pieces but that's because one of them is on my cutting table right as we speak.)<div><br /></div><div>So here they are, categorised. I'll start with the missing piece.</div><div><br /></div><div><b><i>SKIRTS</i></b></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Wtb1TBqkr2g/X5FoqAbv2xI/AAAAAAAACXc/QZ8vf5tymD8F3am9GX1tWIon_yzw6AlyACLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/foto%2B%25281%2529.jpg" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1530" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Wtb1TBqkr2g/X5FoqAbv2xI/AAAAAAAACXc/QZ8vf5tymD8F3am9GX1tWIon_yzw6AlyACLcBGAsYHQ/s320/foto%2B%25281%2529.jpg" /></a></div>A very soft and rather thin, strecht faux suede. <div>I was drawn to the washed out roses immediately. But there is a possibility that I will change my mind about that. Oh well....</div><div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; font-style: italic; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-BrIm4tOdmGE/X5Fqy4Bj-XI/AAAAAAAACYQ/ZszJPlVVmkM21yMiu9a9u6_DFt0fSTdqwCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/foto%2B%25286%2529.jpg" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1530" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-BrIm4tOdmGE/X5Fqy4Bj-XI/AAAAAAAACYQ/ZszJPlVVmkM21yMiu9a9u6_DFt0fSTdqwCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/foto%2B%25286%2529.jpg" /></a></div>I'm slowly but surely letting go of the idea I had for this one. It's a blouse with buttonholes. And this is a jersey that I just can not imagine putting buttonholes in. So it's back to the drawingboard for this one.</div><div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; font-style: italic; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-k0PyC8g45xc/X5Fqz2TyZ-I/AAAAAAAACYY/fdQ3cCZ43LIO9HF2UEQZkEiJnaDDGqregCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/foto%2B%25287%2529.jpg" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1530" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-k0PyC8g45xc/X5Fqz2TyZ-I/AAAAAAAACYY/fdQ3cCZ43LIO9HF2UEQZkEiJnaDDGqregCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/foto%2B%25287%2529.jpg" /></a></div>Animal print is still a thing right? I hope so because this jersey is wild! It will be a bit of an experiment because this is destined for a blouse with some kind of pussy-bow and wider cuffs on the sleeves. But I have high hopes for this one.</div><div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; font-style: italic; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-iGw9jLQPzJ8/X5Fq0Hnao7I/AAAAAAAACYc/HXCpKaORHrY9JNMOrt3trYfPTAFncMzKgCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/foto%2B%25289%2529.jpg" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1530" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-iGw9jLQPzJ8/X5Fq0Hnao7I/AAAAAAAACYc/HXCpKaORHrY9JNMOrt3trYfPTAFncMzKgCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/foto%2B%25289%2529.jpg" /></a></div>Just a fun jersey. My lovely goodies which will, together with the rest of my fabricstash, help me through this winter. Who knows what the world will look like in spring 2021. Will we be going to crowded markets again without having to worry about our and other people's health? To be honest, I don't think so. I believe this is gonna take a while yet. </div><div><br /></div><div>In the meantime, stay safe, stay healthy en keep sewing folks!</div><div><br /></div><div>Lilian</div></div>Lilianhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09122250183894346582noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-733763244192543247.post-58459693829401877692020-10-21T18:11:00.013+02:002020-10-21T18:18:44.167+02:00My preferred way of finishing necklines and armscyes on a knit shirt<p>This week I'm enjoying my autumn break. A whole week to do some much needed sewing. The plan is to do some <i>easy</i> sewing. Nothing too complicated. Last friday I started on a cardigan for which I revisited the pattern I used <a href="http://illsewyou.blogspot.com/2020/03/knipmode-201609-7-cardigan.html"><b>here</b></a> and <a href="http://illsewyou.blogspot.com/2020/05/the-fruits-of-my-sewcation-1-pink.html"><b>here</b>.</a> And my next make is already finished as well: a nightgown, made from a lovely cotton jersey which is a dream to work with! I already made one before with the same type of fabric (black with flowers) and it gets worn a lot. The fabric I used is bought with this nightgown in mind.</p><p>I thought it would be fun to show you how I finished the neckline and armscyes. It's a very easy method and I prefer it over the method where you fold the band and sew it on, double layered. It's a thin line between stretching the band too much and causing puckers or not stretching it enough so it won't lay flat. For me it's hard to get that right. But with this foldover method it's actually easy-peasy. </p><p>Make sure when you cut your pattern you don't include seams at the neckline and armscyes. The edge of the fabric will be the edge of the finished band. To determine the length of the band you measure the edges and take 90% of that + 2 cm for the seams. The band is cut 3 cm wide. Close the band by stitching with a 1 cm seam allowance. </p><p>Here are some pictures to show you the next steps:</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-JRLdq2CTAzk/X5BFmhL_H-I/AAAAAAAACVM/4buUg-14MckzvNV2KR8ITLmNmZ4vz1gkQCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/fase%2B1%2Bband.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1152" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-JRLdq2CTAzk/X5BFmhL_H-I/AAAAAAAACVM/4buUg-14MckzvNV2KR8ITLmNmZ4vz1gkQCLcBGAsYHQ/w360-h640/fase%2B1%2Bband.jpg" width="360" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">Pinning the band on the edge. You need to stretch the band slightly. To make sure the band is evenly distributed, you divide both the edge of the band and the edge of the armscye/neckline in 4 equal parts. Mark those places and pin these together. Then it's easier to fasten the band between these marks.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-STFpeD2iKOA/X5BF8e_9BeI/AAAAAAAACWE/zGS51DYbWUoq-n7xSXQttGE3UuxmWk0oACLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/fase%2B2%2Bband.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1152" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-STFpeD2iKOA/X5BF8e_9BeI/AAAAAAAACWE/zGS51DYbWUoq-n7xSXQttGE3UuxmWk0oACLcBGAsYHQ/w360-h640/fase%2B2%2Bband.jpg" width="360" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">Band sewn on with 0,75 cm seam allowance.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-2fotTbLmtLo/X5BF9pS6dAI/AAAAAAAACWQ/vEmsJaeXB6gHlqbuAx6nI50Rx7P7yfJswCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/fase%2B3%2Bband.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1152" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-2fotTbLmtLo/X5BF9pS6dAI/AAAAAAAACWQ/vEmsJaeXB6gHlqbuAx6nI50Rx7P7yfJswCLcBGAsYHQ/w360-h640/fase%2B3%2Bband.jpg" width="360" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">Serged the edge for a neat finish. (Of course you can do this before attaching the band. I totally forgot :-) </div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Oxj4PF4ATek/X5BF-l7kuoI/AAAAAAAACWY/9uZUHgLQ3mkcq62NJY0_BdbBmm6bxgUjwCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/omslaan%2Bband.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1152" data-original-width="2048" height="360" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Oxj4PF4ATek/X5BF-l7kuoI/AAAAAAAACWY/9uZUHgLQ3mkcq62NJY0_BdbBmm6bxgUjwCLcBGAsYHQ/w640-h360/omslaan%2Bband.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div></div><div style="text-align: center;">And this is where the magic happens: Fold the band óver the edge to the inside. They are not matching very well with the dress, but at this point my head was almost exploding with a headache and the shoes were the last thing on my mind. The first time I saw it in KnipMode I was immediately drawn to the designlines. But a jumpsuit is just not for me. However, it was clear to me that I could easily hack this pattern and make a dress of it by turning the pants into a skirt. All I had to do was extend the vertical seamline of the pants at centerfront and centerback to the required skirtlength, keeping the pleats of the pants at the waistline. </p><p>I always have a bit of trouble deciding where my waistline should be. The fabric I used is a heavier knit and I knew that the weight of the skirt would pull the waistline down. So I needed to put it higher, but since you can't tell how much it will pull it down, it's hard to estimate hów much higher. If I make this dress again in a similar fabric, I think I will put the waistpline (top of the waistpiece) about 2,5 centimeter higher. </p><p>To give the waist some extra support (with all that weight hanging down from it), I used a double layer of fabric. First I sewed the outer waistpiece to the top. Then I sewed both outer and inner waistpiece together at the bottom, sandwiching the skirt in between, which makes for a neat finish. The top of the inner waistpiece was then handsewn onto the seamline of the top and outer waistpiece. This was a good decision, it certainly gives it a bit more structure in the waist. Using this technique involves some wrong side on right side sewing and that always messes with my head. I had to be very careful to sew everything together correctly. There's not much fun in unpicking seams in a knitfabric. </p><p>Assembling the rest of the dress was very easy and straightforward. To finish it off I sewed a tiebelt which ideally should be much longer but I didn't have enough fabric left. (I can wear it with a storebought belt as well.) Something to keep in mind if I make this dress again. Which will absolutely happen but not any time soon. (Fall sewing, anyone?) With this dress I'm still contemplating whether or not to shorten the skirt a little. It seems quite long but on the other hand, that was the whole idea to begin with. I will probably leave it this way and maybe adjust the lenght in a next one. All in all, I consider this sewingproject a success. </p><p>Now, what project will be next on my sewing table? I wish I knew!! Maybe it's because we are on the brink of fall but are still experiencing summer weather, that it is so hard to decide which path to choose. I guess I'll have some more planning to do.</p><p>Keep safe! Talk to you soon.</p><p>Lilian</p>Lilianhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09122250183894346582noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-733763244192543247.post-38758887364511339732020-08-16T11:58:00.002+02:002020-08-16T11:58:14.872+02:00The fruits of my sewcation - #3 Summerdress<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-zfgqyV6l2wI/XzPAS57_fjI/AAAAAAAACTI/X_VPQUoQo9sd5f_p6gQGAvLKgWDt-548wCLcBGAsYHQ/s2046/foto%2B%252815%2529.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2046" data-original-width="1465" height="838" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-zfgqyV6l2wI/XzPAS57_fjI/AAAAAAAACTI/X_VPQUoQo9sd5f_p6gQGAvLKgWDt-548wCLcBGAsYHQ/w600-h838/foto%2B%252815%2529.jpg" width="600" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-cO-9Z_a8rfo/Xzj-hJ9259I/AAAAAAAACTU/OTXeXViVUpsH3jASyWPDkB6q33PudbbegCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/20200816_113439.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1313" height="328" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-cO-9Z_a8rfo/Xzj-hJ9259I/AAAAAAAACTU/OTXeXViVUpsH3jASyWPDkB6q33PudbbegCLcBGAsYHQ/w210-h328/20200816_113439.jpg" width="210" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><i>From KnipMode January 2018</i></div><p>This is the last one of my makes I sewed way back in the beginning of May.</p><p>The fabric
I used has been in my stash for quite some time. It was part of a
fabric surprisebox and altough I liked the fabric from the beginning, I didn’t
have plans for it for a long time. But when I started to think about spring-
and summersewing earlier this year, this fabric popped up in my head more than once. So the search for a pattern started. I knew I wanted to make an easy dress and I
wanted to use the side of the fabric on which the pattern gets darker, as a
feature. I found a pattern that seemed to check all the boxes and decided to place the
darker pattern of the fabric at the bottom of the dress. For a few moments I thought of
placing it at the waist but boy, am I glad I decided against that!<br /><br />I
fiddled with the pattern a bit to get it to my liking (sleeves a bit wider, shorter and more bended, added a bust-dart, widened the waist, took out some fullness of
the skirt. And obviously I skipped the middle part which in the original design is used for colourblocking (top and bottom black, middle part frog-green). I also left out the bows and made small tie-belt instead.</p><p>When putting it all together it seemed to work well but the sleeves were not behaving the way they should.
The hems of these grown-on sleeves tend to pull up on top of your arm. It wasn’t that bad
before I hemmed the sleeves, but after I did it looked horrendous. Really awful. No way I
would wear it like that. So what to do?
I remember fiddling with it a bit more but with no succes and at a certain point I was so
fed up that I wanted to cut of the bodice and use only the skirt. But in the
back of my head there was this little voice saying “just let it rest for now and
come back tomorrow”. So I put down my
scissors and left the sewingroom. The next day I picked up the dress
again and had a light-bulb moment: why not put some elastic on the inside of the sleeve-hem where it points up and tame it that way? It was worth the try, so I did. And it worked. I
must honestly say that if I could trade it for a nice smooth hem, I
would. But this is the next best thing and at least I’m happy I was able to
save the dress. With thanks to that little voice in my head telling me not to give up
yet.</p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing"><span lang="" style="mso-ansi-language: EN-GB;"><o:p>It's still hot here in the Netherlands. Well, at least to my standard it is. In the beginning of my summer-holiday I managed to sew a dress and skirt (which I both think turned out great and I'll wite about them in my next blogposts) but my plans for sewing a lot during the holiday remained just that: plans. When the weather cools down again the holiday will be over and I think by then it will be time to face the fact that summersewing is over as well. Not that I mind. I lóve to sew for fall and winter. <br /></o:p></span>So maybe I should use this hot weather to do some planning for the coming, cooler seasons. That should be doable right? And fun. With a cool drink at hand, of course ;-) </p>

just for the fun of it. Back in
2010 I sewed this skirt but it never got worn because it was too tight. I don’t
remember if this was due to the fact that I gained weight in those days, or
that I simply didn’t take measurements and made it too small. Believe it or
not, that happened more than once back then.</p></div><p class="MsoNoSpacing"> <img border="0" data-original-height="1799" data-original-width="647" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-EBIeYmRiA2A/XuXpN6kwVYI/AAAAAAAACQ0/PPn1yBevGz4IPmzn9bkHg6qFhyke7B-XACK4BGAsYHg/s320/foto%2B%252811%2529.jpg" /> <img border="0" data-original-height="1289" data-original-width="716" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-SIcQQXdljXw/XuXoVx05AwI/AAAAAAAACQY/hZqRuVpTykYEkyUchFz4u8WsveNFCjNHgCK4BGAsYHg/w178-h320/foto%2B%25284%2529.jpg" width="178" /></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing">This
time I took a size 46, which is closest to my hip-measurement. I compared that to
my own measurements and decided I needed to widen the waist with 13 cm. These
cm were evenly divided as follows:</p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing"><span lang="">- 2,25
cm at both sides of the sidepanels, grading out to 0 at the hemline. (4 x 2,25
= 9)<br /></span>- 1 cm
at both sides of the centre pieces of the back- and frontskirt (both skirt and
yoke). (4 x 1 = 4)</p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing">That
gave me the extra room of 13 cm that I needed. If this pattern would be
available in a size 48, I would have chosen that, but it isn’t.</p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing">Though
it seemed this was going to be a fairly quick make, I had a few hickups along
the way.</p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing"><span lang="">One had
to do with sewing on the yoke in the back. You have to topstitch on top of the
yoke which means the seams on the inside have to be folded upwards. But how do
you do that when you have a zipper at that place plus the bulk of a pleat? I
managed to do so by cutting off the zipperends at the bottom as close as I
dared and cutting away fabric in the seam as much as possible. It worked in the
end and I think I managed to finish it neatly on the outside. The inside however
is another story. <o:p></o:p></span></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-onlI_-TYJeA/XzAWxj3IuHI/AAAAAAAACS0/RyNl5yYk1m8uDfsBRWkNHBf9gYIUihV8ACLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/foto%2B%252813%2529.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="display: block; padding: 1em 0px; text-align: center;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1530" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-onlI_-TYJeA/XzAWxj3IuHI/AAAAAAAACS0/RyNl5yYk1m8uDfsBRWkNHBf9gYIUihV8ACLcBGAsYHQ/w238-h320/foto%2B%252813%2529.jpg" width="238" /></a></div><p class="MsoNoSpacing">This is
not something that’s mentioned in the sewingdescription. I wonder how many
sewists have stumbled upon that problem….</p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing"><span lang="">If I
were to make this skirt again, I would put a centreback seam in de backpanel of
the skirt, just as in the yoke, so the zipper doesn’t collide with a horizontal
and upwards seam at its bottom but can just let its little legs hang down freely.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing">The
other thing was that, in spite of me taking accurate measurements, the skirt
ended up too wide in the waist. The fabric is a cotton with a bit of stretch.
Enough stretch to hold it’s original shape. (I checked several times!) And even
if it would have stretched a bit, I made sure to cut out the facings in the
original shape of the patternpieces and interfaced them with non-stretching
material. I don’t know how but somehow this facings must have stretched as well.</p>
<p class="MsoNoSpacing"><span lang="">To solve
this I unpicked the facing at the sideseams, took away the extra width by
putting a dart in the sidepanels and closed the facingpieces with a wider seam
so it fitted the new width of the sidepanels. Those darts are hardly visible
because of the print of the fabric. I sewed the facing back on and now it fits
perfectly. <o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNoSpacing"><span lang="">Fruit #3 of my sewcation, a summer dress, will be in my next post. </span></p>

Last
week I was enjoying a much needed vacation, which in fact has been a sewcation,
just as planned. The muscles in my neck and back are sore from sitting in an
unhealthy position. (Note to self: must do something about that position!)</div>

pants-fitting. Each item will get its own blogpost because I’ve decided that,

It is súper
stretchy but my serger did a great job, as always. Really, that little machine
changed my life! The cardigan is finished with a band, sewn
to the front and the neckline. The front patternpiece for this is curved. There were
enough reasons to cut it out as a straight band: I didn’t wanted to distort the
lines of the fabricdesign, <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>the curve is
really shallow and the fabric stretchy enough to accommodate for that, ánd, not
unimportant, there was not enough fabric to cut it out as a curve. Luckily,

When
deciding how many fabric I need for a project, I always add extra length.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> But somehow I miscalculated this time because I wasn't able to fit the patternpieces on the fabric. That was a bit of a scare because I bought 2 pieces of fabric with this top in mind. S</span>o I ended up doing
something I actually never do: I placed one big patternpiece upside down. I checked
if the fabric didn’t change in colour and it didn’t. The long frontfacing also was a problem, so I cut it into 2 pieces. That way it didn’t take up much length and that little seam would be hidden anyway. And hey, just like that, the problem was solved!</div>

I hope
you are all well in these crazy times! Next tuesday we will hear more from our
government about the Corona-measures for the following period. Will there be an
extension of the taken measures or will they become less strict? Will schools
open again or will they be shut until after the summer? There’s even talk that the
summerholidays may be shortened to help students who have fallen behind in
their education, to catch up. Personally, I would very much like to know when
we will be able to start working in the office again. But I’m sure everything
will be phased in at first, so it will probably be a combination of working in
the office and working from home, rotating with colleagues. That’s fine by me.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Normally this is a chronological blog, but with this cardigan I'm breaking that rule. This was already made in december. Animal print is a trend that has been here for a while and is probably not going anywhere soon. I still have to get used to wearing it and feel very selfconscious if I do. Especially when half of my body is covered in it. But it was not made to hang in the closet so today I was 'brave' and wore it to work. At least, it's perfect for casual friday.</div>
<br />
It is a simple pattern and a simple make. I took my time with the front- and necklineband.<br />
The only thing I changed was the armscye. The sleeves are put in at a lower point but the pattern has curved lines as if it has to accomodate for the shoulderpoint so it was almost inevitable that after putting in the sleeve, a bump on the upperarm occurred. If the sleeve starts that low on the arm, you can just as well get away with a straight seam. Good thing I check the fity my projects, numerous times in between. Now I had to unpick only one sleeve.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-g-Vg4K7ljJg/XmJqRLv7JLI/AAAAAAAACLI/Q_ghWDW2MT4qmPm02UcBXy6hpwMQdcDLwCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/foto%2B%25286%2529%2Bpaint.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1107" data-original-width="1063" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-g-Vg4K7ljJg/XmJqRLv7JLI/AAAAAAAACLI/Q_ghWDW2MT4qmPm02UcBXy6hpwMQdcDLwCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/foto%2B%25286%2529%2Bpaint.jpg" width="307" /></a></div>
<br />
The fabric is a very soft knit. It's part of a package of 5 x 2 meters of knit jersey I bought a while ago. It was sold as a surprise package so I didn't know in advance what the fabrics looked like. It was only € 20 euro's and it felt like giving myself a present. I was not disappointed at all! There's still one piece left, one was a fail and the other three were made up in this cardigan, a skirt, and a sweater. The last two I already wore several times. I'm actually playing with the idea of buying another package of surprise knit-jerseys....<br />
<br />
After work I made the pictures for this blog. Sometimes I have to take 100 photo's just to get one right and now it was done in a few minutes. There was even some time to goofe around.<br />
It would be a waste not to post them, ánd I had a good hairday, so I'm showing my face today :-)<br />
<br />
Have a nice weekend everyone and stay Corona-safe!<br />

I bought 1, 2 or max 3 pieces and sewed them up, before I bought other fabric.<br />
Then the internet came and I started reading about other sewists who bought lots and lots of fabrics. Pictures of enormous fabricstashes....it made my mouth water....and yes I must admit, influenced me!<br />
Slowly but surely I started buying more and more. You could say that's where my addiction started. My plans couldn't catch up with the <strike>need</strike> want of new fabric so I started buying without a plan. And that was a mistake. If I look at my stash now I see some pieces that have been there forever. And guess what? Exactly! Those were the ones I bought without any idea of what to do with them. I came to the realisation that that was just not the way to go for me. So nowadays I'm back to planning most of my fabricpurchases. Trying to be sensible about it. (I'll make an exception for pieces out of the remnant bin though....) It doesn't mean I always stick to those plans but at least there always ís a plan.<br />
<br />
The following fabric I bought online at Budgetstoffen and I wasn't dissapointed at all when I opened the package. There are only 3 pieces. I restrained myself from buying more because in March I will be visiting a large fabric market so I didn't want to overdo it this time.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<u>Knitted jersey - mint/beige stripes (50% viscose / 47% polyester / 3% elasthane)</u><br />
This is a soft, thin, almost delicate knit. Good thing there's elasthane in it or else I don't think it would hold its shape at all. I want to make a cardigan with this, which will be ideal to wear in spring.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-KclB2Ge_ukc/XlVc2sVA6kI/AAAAAAAACJI/a0Tm5cyCmPQm1ckNAkw3mqpIU8hpswiLQCEwYBhgL/s1600/img_4194_2%2B%25282%2529.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="282" data-original-width="500" height="225" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-KclB2Ge_ukc/XlVc2sVA6kI/AAAAAAAACJI/a0Tm5cyCmPQm1ckNAkw3mqpIU8hpswiLQCEwYBhgL/s400/img_4194_2%2B%25282%2529.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<u><br /></u>
<u>Knitted jersey - fuchsia stripes (97% viscose / 3% elasthane)</u><br />
Another thin knit and quite see through. Using interfacing in another colour is almost impossible so I will have to figure out another way to stabilize certain parts. I'll be using the same cardiganpattern for this as for the mint/beige fabric.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-bghgtOoUV7o/XlVhPyZnMMI/AAAAAAAACJU/tPqu_CswTjQYtR4WytXLAAkkenR7ow27wCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/20200225_181629.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="675" data-original-width="1200" height="225" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-bghgtOoUV7o/XlVhPyZnMMI/AAAAAAAACJU/tPqu_CswTjQYtR4WytXLAAkkenR7ow27wCLcBGAsYHQ/s400/20200225_181629.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<u>Lycra Stripes and Flowers (82% polyester / 18% spandex)</u><br />
I will use this to make a sports shirt. The pattern is one I made myself by copying a shirt that I bought and that I really like to work out in. If it turns out to be a succes than I can see more of these shirts in the near future.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
This will also be the next project I will be working on, starting tomorrow. It should be a quick make.<br />
For now the plan is to keep it simple but for future projects it would be fun to do some colourblocking. Maybe there will be some of this blue fabric left and I can pair it with a plain black or blue lycra. Now that's an idea I like!<br />
<br />
Talk to you soon!<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
Yesterday
I finally finished the culotte on which I have been working on and off for a
few weeks now and that has been on my sewing-wishlist for quite some time. In fact it has been there ever since this pattern was published in December 2017.<br />
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
<span lang="EN-GB" style="mso-ansi-language: EN-GB;">The
fabric I bought at a fabric market and at the time I forgot to ask what kind of
fabric it is but I’m pretty sure there’s polyester in it. (I should do the ‘burn-test’!) The weight is heavy and that's a very good thing for this
design, because it elongates the pleats in the front which makes all that extra width stay in place. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
The original
design has a paperbag-waist. I would never wear it like that (don’t need all
that extra bulk at my waist) and decided to eliminate the piece above the
waistline.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>It’s a loose fitting design (and
very comfortable to wear!) so I could get away with my normal size 46 and had
to add just a little bit at the sideseams at the waist. I didn’t make the
fabric tie belt either. I’ll be using a small store-bought belt and made the
beltloops accordingly small so the belt stays in place and doesn’t shift
upwards.</div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/--tFjXSUtySo/XklAa7mWDYI/AAAAAAAACIM/o21Zo0rb5VofJXosIiE-Z-uV5KxPAOtzwCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/foto%2B%25284%2529.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1405" data-original-width="1021" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/--tFjXSUtySo/XklAa7mWDYI/AAAAAAAACIM/o21Zo0rb5VofJXosIiE-Z-uV5KxPAOtzwCLcBGAsYHQ/s400/foto%2B%25284%2529.jpg" width="290" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
When I
thought I had completed this project without too many hickups,<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I encountered a problem. After hemming the
legs, the sideseams were pulling up. When I laid them flat they didn’t, but once I put them on and looked down….yikes!</div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
<span lang="EN-GB" style="mso-ansi-language: EN-GB;">At first
I thought maybe I eased one side of the seam in<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>a bit. I usually pin beginning and end of a seam together and then pin
in between, so If one side is a tiny bit longer than the other, you hardly
notice that you are gathering one side of the seam. It seemed logical that this
would be the cause of that pulling. I opened up the sideseams for about 2/3 of the length
and closed them again, now pinning from the top to the bottom, expecting to
find that one side would turn out longer than the other. But it didn’t. Don’t
ask me how but after this there wás some improvement, so I gave it a good press
and at least now it’s wearable. Ah well, probably no-one will notice.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
<span lang="EN-GB" style="mso-ansi-language: EN-GB;">Although
this style is very out of my comfortzone, I like it a lot. It reminds me of a
pair of 7/8 length summertrousers I made when I was a teen. If I remember correctly it had 6 (!) <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>pleats at the
waist and was tapered at the bottom. It was made of a light-yellow cotton and I
lóved it and felt very special in it.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>In
my defence: it was the beginning of the 80’s and wide trousers were the thing
to wear, right?<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
<span lang="EN-GB" style="mso-ansi-language: EN-GB;">There
are more culottes on my wishlist but they will be for summer. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
<span lang="EN-GB" style="mso-ansi-language: EN-GB;">Now….wish
me luck stepping out of my comfortzone and wearing these to work…..<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<span lang="EN-GB" style="mso-ansi-language: EN-GB;">Back in
1993 one of my aunts visited me. She had been sewing for most of her life and
was damn good at it. Many bridal gowns in the family were made by her. She also
sewed a lot for my mother and she made my communion dress. I have vivid
memories of how pretty I felt that day. Now 45 years later, it’s still
hanging in a closet because I just can't part with it. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
<span lang="EN-GB" style="mso-ansi-language: EN-GB;">Anyways,
we were chatting over coffee and she asked if I was interested to subscribe to
KnipMode. In those days I bought a copy occasionally but I liked the idea of getting
it on a regular basis, so I subscribed. Around 2005 I got a bit bored with the
style of the patterns and ended my subscription. Sometimes I bought an issue
but all in all it wasn’t until 2008 that I renewd my subscription. Then my
sewing really took off. I was very productive in those years. In my view, Knipmode was
getting better and better and I really looked forward to receiving it every month. <o:p></o:p></span></div>

a dutch Facebookpage which is all about Knipmodepatterns. (You have to be a
member to read it.) It was sort of funny that I already knew from the reactions
on that page whether I would like the new issue or not. If the majority was
enthusiastic I knew for me it would be a mèh-number. If they were complaining
about the ladylike patterns that are only worn by women in offices, it would be
my cup-of-tea. Funny, but spot-on every time!<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
<span lang="EN-GB" style="mso-ansi-language: EN-GB;">That Facebookpage
has quite a lot of followers, so it’s common believe that KnipMode is reading
the responses as well. Maybe they listened to the “We are women juggling
motherhood, work etc. etc., we don’t have a need for fancy dresses or pencilskirts.
We need comfortable clothes.”. Also the wish for special designfeatures
(origami anyone??) was big. It can be coincidence but the style of the patterns
started to change in a way that I didn’t like. Actually, the style of the whole
magazine started to change, which led to my decision to part with Knipmode. It just doesn’t make me happy anymore. Although there are still feminine patterndesigns,
I really think the vibe of KnipMode has turned to ‘practical’. For me KnipMode
was never about practical clothes. It was about feminine clothes, beautiful
fabrics, daydreaming about those beautiful clothes and hoping they would make
me a little bit more beautiful. Well, I guess you can say I’m a bit of a
dreamer and not that practical haha… <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><o:p></o:p></span></div>

My first
sewingproject of the year 2020 is finished and it’s a raglan sleeve sweater. The original
pattern I’ve used is from KnipMode December 2013. Original, because I made quite some changes.</div>

In the picture
below you can see the original linedrawing of this pattern. See those curved seams? The front and back bodypiece do have this curved seamline (second picture), but the sleeves do not. They're straight at that point. Anyone who has been sewing for a
while knows that when you sew a curved and a straight seam together, you create depth. The fabric is
no longer laying flat. And that’s exactly what happened when I made this sweater some years ago. Front and back, left
and right.</div>

I
remember I took some time trying to fix it but for some reason I never really
succeeded, so that sweater ended up never being worn. Last year I wanted to
give it another go and I smoothed out the line of the front and
back bodypiece. That did the trick, as was to be expected. No
strange bulges at places where there aren't supposed to be any. I was (and am) quite pleased with this one. I added a band at the bottom, cuffs at the sleeves and finished the neckline with a simple neckband. So basically, not much of the original pattern survived....</div>

I was so pleased with it that I bought some lovely pink sweaterfabric and
made another one. (I left out the band at the bottom and made it longer with
slits in the side so it would be more appropriate to wear for my job.) This
fabric is thicker so I added some width to the sideseams and underarmseams, to
avoid a snugger fit. Again, a succes.</div>

And
then, yes, I made the grey one you see at the beginning of this post. Although the grey jersey fabric
is much thinner than the pink fabric, I kept the width I added to the pattern. Again I added the band at the bottom. This one turned out great as well.</div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">

<span lang="EN-GB" style="mso-ansi-language: EN-GB;">But…..<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
<span lang="EN-GB" style="mso-ansi-language: EN-GB;">Yes, I’m
afraid there is a but. On all three of them the neckband is not
completely lying flat in the front. The pictures don't show this and it's probably something most people wouldn’t
even notice, but I do. The next time I’ll try to fix this, because there will be
a next time, definitely. I love this pattern!<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
For attaching the neckband I used
the method in which you divide both the neckband and neckline in 4 equal parts,
using notches to indicate where the neckband and neckline should be pinned
together. Then, while sewing, you stretch the neckband (between the notches) to accommodate for the longer length of the neckline.</div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
<span lang="EN-GB" style="mso-ansi-language: EN-GB;">Lots of
video’s on youtube show this method, and after a good pressing it always looks
perfect. Somehow, for me that was not the case. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
<span lang="EN-GB" style="mso-ansi-language: EN-GB;">The neckband should have been stretched more in the front and less over
the shoulders (The wrinkles at the shoulders were way too obvious. I was able
to get most out by pressing, but in a certain light you can still see it. Something
was just off.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
<span lang="EN-GB" style="mso-ansi-language: EN-GB;">So I
took a long and hard think. And this is what I’ll be doing next time:<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
<span lang="EN-GB" style="mso-ansi-language: EN-GB;">-
Dividing the neckband in 4 equal parts<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>(same as in the other method)<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
<span lang="EN-GB" style="mso-ansi-language: EN-GB;">-
Dividing the neckline in 4 equal parts BUT move both notches at the side 3/4 cm
backwards.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
<span lang="EN-GB" style="mso-ansi-language: EN-GB;">That way
the neckband has to be stretched a bit more in the front because of the loner neckline (+ 1,5 cm)
which will hopefully solve the problem of it sticking out. And over the
shoulders it’s the opposite: shorter neckline (-/- 1,5 cm) so less stretching of the
neckband needed, which will hopefully result in less wrinkles.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Fingers crossed that this will work out. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
<span lang="EN-GB" style="mso-ansi-language: EN-GB;">Next on
the cutting-table is a midi-skirt which should be a no-brainer as I’m using a
true-and-tried pattern which can be sewn up in a very short time. Let’s call it
‘instant sewisfaction’ shall we?<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<br />
What better time to show my face than at the start of the new year, right?<br />
And a polished face that is. After many years of using a black themed blog, I decided it was time to change it to a more fresh-coloured one. The colours I've chosen remind me of spring, which is better than the dreary, rainy, non-wintery weather we're heaving right now in the Netherlands.<br />
<br />
After a hiatus of 1,5 year, what are my plans for this blog?<br />
Well, I can tell you that I would love to write a post every week, but that's a promise that might be hard to live up to. So, no promises. Let's just see how this evolves.<br />
One thing I will do is write down ideas for posts and split them up a bit more. No need to cram everything in one post.<br />
I also would love to share more of my daily activities. Not just the sewing stuff.<br />
And last but not least: I really want to improve the quality of my pictures. <br />
<br />
As always the lack of posts was not due to the fact that there was no sewing going on. I still love to create and try to do that whenever I can. Oh, and there has been 'some' fabric shopping throughout the year. Unfortunately, the fabric shop that was so close to my home is no longer there. I really miss it. It was like Alladin's cave with so many beautiful fabrics, lots of jerseys, and other handcrafting material, including a furry cat that seemed to live in the shop (and ón the fabric). The amount of internet-based fabricshops has grown enormously, but that's just not the same. You need to see the fabric and feel it. So the places where I mostly buy my fabric now, are the greater fabric-markets that are held in the region once in the spring and once in the fall. Whenever the dates get published I write them down in my agenda and take a day off from work. A girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do right?<br />
<br />
Since I've been focussing on a better fit, my projects have been more successful. I've kept track and I'm glad to say that in 2019 17 projects turned out to be successful and 3 were failures. One of the failures was a pair of pants. Sewing a pair of fitting pants is still one of my biggest challenges. I've read a lot about adjustments etc. but to make them work is quite another story. It's a matter of not giving up trying I suppose.<br />
<br />
This is it for now. Let's finish with the picture that shows most of the fabric I bought at a fabric-market in the spring of 2019. (And it's the picture my blog-header is made from.) Four of them are already made up into summergarments.<br />
<br />
Talk to you soon.<br />

here in the Netherlands, the first 3 weeks went by in a bit of a blur. I really
could not do much more than hang on the couch and move as little as possible.
It's just not my kind of weather and I’m ever so glad that the heat is gone, altough it’s still above 20°C. </span><span style="color: #222222; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">In spite of all that heat I managed to get some
sewing done.</span><br />

<span style="color: #222222; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I bought the fabric for this skirt (KnipMode January
2018 – skirt ‘Yara’) at a fabric fair and it is a wonderful jersey with
elastane. The colours are so vibrant, And it has a bit of weight to it so it
hangs beautifully. It was a super quick make. I took size 46 and made it
slightly bigger at the hip. Jersey can be so clingy to your body and I really

<span style="color: #222222; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">As you can tell from the picture below, the design calls for an elastic band as a waistband, but I opted for a casing of the fabric, sewn on top of the skirt, and 1,5 cm elastic to put in it.</span></div>

No, me neither…</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">It's sooo hot and dry here in the Netherlands and there's no sign of it changing anytime soon. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I have a trip planned this thursday with two friends. Initially we were going to pay a visit to a few city's in the province of Zeeland, but I don't think that's a good idea when it's <span style="font-family: "calibri";">35°C.<span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; display: inline; float: none; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: 400; letter-spacing: normal; text-align: left; text-decoration: none; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; word-spacing: 0px;"> Thursday and Friday are actually the hottest days according to the weather forecast. We will probably be driving on to the coast instead and spending our day at the beach.</span></span><br />
</span><br />
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 10.66px;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">N<span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; display: inline; float: none; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: 400; letter-spacing: normal; text-align: left; text-decoration: none; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; word-spacing: 0px;">ext tuesday I'll be going on a daytrip with a friend to Trier (Germany). It's booked at a bus-company and I'm really looking forward to that but if the temperatures are still this high (and chances are they will be) than it's going to be somewhat of a challenge to be walking around in a heated city. I hope the bus has airco, that would be a big plus!</span></span></span></div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 10.66px;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; display: inline; float: none; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: 400; letter-spacing: normal; text-align: left; text-decoration: none; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; word-spacing: 0px;">Okay, I've moaned enough. There are still a lot of people who really enjoy this kind of weather. I'm sure my kind of weather will return. Everyone gets their fair share eventually.</span></span><span style="font-family: "calibri";"><span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; display: inline; float: none; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: 400; letter-spacing: normal; text-align: left; text-decoration: none; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; word-spacing: 0px;"> Now, on to the sewing part.</span></span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="margin: 0px 0px 10.66px;">
<span style="font-family: "calibri";"><span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; display: inline; float: none; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: 400; letter-spacing: normal; text-align: left; text-decoration: none; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; word-spacing: 0px;">I'm in the second week of my 5-week holiday and despite being overheated, I did manage to make a garment. It's a remake of a blouse I made in june 2014. (<a href="http://illsewyou.blogspot.com/2014/06/yes-finally.html">See here</a>). Back then I had some troubles with the pattern. This is what the original one looks like:</span></span></div>
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 10.66px;">
<span style="font-family: "calibri";"><span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; display: inline; float: none; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: 400; letter-spacing: normal; text-align: left; text-decoration: none; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; word-spacing: 0px;"><br /></span></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-vb436vyn0XY/W1buPsWXSVI/AAAAAAAACAA/vdEDOYF8QbIlkvENnDHVaEnU8bmd-qzSACLcBGAs/s1600/100_7523.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1522" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-vb436vyn0XY/W1buPsWXSVI/AAAAAAAACAA/vdEDOYF8QbIlkvENnDHVaEnU8bmd-qzSACLcBGAs/s320/100_7523.JPG" width="304" /></a></div>
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 10.66px;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 10.66px;">
<span style="font-family: "calibri";"><span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; display: inline; float: none; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: 400; letter-spacing: normal; text-align: left; text-decoration: none; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; word-spacing: 0px;">It has pleats on the neckline, just sewn in place without any further reinforcement. That just didn't work, the neckline was way too wide. I even tried to enlarge the pleats but it just seemed to open up if I put it on. I decided to draft a rounded band to put on top of that neckline and that did the trick!</span></span></div>
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 10.66px;">
<span style="font-family: "calibri";"><span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; display: inline; float: none; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: 400; letter-spacing: normal; text-align: left; text-decoration: none; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; word-spacing: 0px;">I've worn the 2014 version só many times and now I'm really satisfied with the end-result of this new blouse. The fabric is a bit stiffer than the purple one from 2014, but it's just working fine. To make sure I could get it on and off I had to eliminate one of the front darts, but that doesn't seem to make a change. </span></span></div>
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 10.66px;">
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">The pile of fabric I bought recently (see my previous post) really is waiting for me to dive into it. I hope I'll be entering my sewingroom soon once it's cooled down a bit.</span></div>
<div style="margin: 0px 0px 10.66px;">
Happy summer/sewing everyone!</div>

There are some trips planned but nothing longer than 1 day, so there's gonna be lots of time left to spend sewing. (And reading, and cooking, and gardening, and doing nothing, and shopping, and sleeping in, and cuddling/playing with my brave little cat-friend). At least that's the plan. But sewing will only happen if the temperatures are gonna drop a bit because it's too hot for me to even move. The 14-day forecast however doesn't show any signs of dropping temperatures. I was allright with that when I was younger but with a certain age comes a dislike of being too hot. I'm sure some of you ladies out there know what I mean, right?</span><br />
<div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">There's hardly any green grass left to find. It all looks yellow. Nature is in desperate need of rain. Lots of rain.</span><br />
<div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Nevertheless I really wanted to buy some fabric at the beginning of my holiday and today I received 2 packages with fabric at the same time. Talking about planning!</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">In my head I'm already focussing on fall-sewing but there are some fabrics in my purchase that scream summer.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Well, let me talk you through the pile of goodies.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">First, a<b> loose woven, boucle-ish soft pink fabric</b>. It was not showing on the picture on the website (nor is it here) but there is a little hinge of silver thread in it. Not in a way that i don't like though.</span></div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-TDU5BHez1Z4/W0o8W2tL1xI/AAAAAAAAB_c/CstH2k_G1Ws7-iGoEuUNYxr2oAt4HlOAACEwYBhgL/s1600/20180714_191601_resized.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1222" data-original-width="1600" height="305" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-TDU5BHez1Z4/W0o8W2tL1xI/AAAAAAAAB_c/CstH2k_G1Ws7-iGoEuUNYxr2oAt4HlOAACEwYBhgL/s400/20180714_191601_resized.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
</div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Then a <b>viscose fabric,</b> with vibrant blue and green in it. Beautiful but slippery. </span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-TEWU59_9Xdc/W0o8XAHZt9I/AAAAAAAAB_g/1KpG_WFWSN0zarYmM4AaQqqRL6q_12XtwCEwYBhgL/s1600/20180714_191648_resized.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="300" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-TEWU59_9Xdc/W0o8XAHZt9I/AAAAAAAAB_g/1KpG_WFWSN0zarYmM4AaQqqRL6q_12XtwCEwYBhgL/s400/20180714_191648_resized.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Another <b>viscose fabric, quite thin, see-through and flowy, with beautiful colours</b>. </span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">The colours are actually even more intense in real life.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-aY9SxzrYZOE/W0o6th3FtKI/AAAAAAAAB_A/p6_WhD0BiNcrEA89IhHFtHTo-8kgksn7ACEwYBhgL/s1600/20180714_191754_resized.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="400" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-aY9SxzrYZOE/W0o6th3FtKI/AAAAAAAAB_A/p6_WhD0BiNcrEA89IhHFtHTo-8kgksn7ACEwYBhgL/s400/20180714_191754_resized.jpg" width="300" /></span></a></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">A <b>crincled, softblue/purple viscose with beautiful flowerprint</b>. 95% of the fabric is as light as you can see at the top of this picture. The darker colours are only on one side at the end, so I can play with that and use it as a design-feature.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">This fabric was a drag to photograph but I think I nailed it.....a lovely <b>pink crepe fabric</b>.</span></div>
<div>
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ceuXwgYw4M4/W0o8Y_22TEI/AAAAAAAAB_s/9hQ3PEL2_2gcXGRrf1iIJmtigAwNh1XZgCEwYBhgL/s1600/20180714_192012_resized.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="300" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ceuXwgYw4M4/W0o8Y_22TEI/AAAAAAAAB_s/9hQ3PEL2_2gcXGRrf1iIJmtigAwNh1XZgCEwYBhgL/s400/20180714_192012_resized.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Talking about fall-sewing. This piece I réally like. It's a <b>brick-coloured knitted fluffy fabric</b> and I will be making a long cardigan out of it. </span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-rc6w3asVLL4/W0o8Y2l9IJI/AAAAAAAAB_4/Rdb7traJq0IM98EJ69qffIlGDsGoE5FeQCEwYBhgL/s1600/20180714_191719_resized.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="300" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-rc6w3asVLL4/W0o8Y2l9IJI/AAAAAAAAB_4/Rdb7traJq0IM98EJ69qffIlGDsGoE5FeQCEwYBhgL/s400/20180714_191719_resized.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">And finally, a <b>grey jersey with little black spots</b>. With this I'll make a pair of comfy loungepants to wear at home. </span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I think I've added enough to my fabric-stash to last me a while. I have more than enough fabric lying around but it's just fun to buy some new stuff now and then. And there are so many beautiful new fall- and winterfabrics coming out, I just want them all!! </span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><u><br /></u></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><u>Little update on my cat-friend for anyone who's interested.</u></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Last week I went back to the veterinarian because I still had some questions about this artrose-condition in combination with the painkiller-medication. He said it would be best to do a blood-test to check the function of his kidneys and liver. My cat behaved just as bad as the last time but with the help of 2 assistants he managed to draw some blood without sedation. Which was great because now I could feed him right after we got home and he didn't have to deal with any side-effects. The blood-test showed that the kidneys are at a point where they are starting to deteriorate. Nothing abnormal for a cat his age, but a concern in combination with the painmedication he's having right now. So I have to give him half of the dose for 6 weeks and then go back for another blood-test. In the meantime I will have lots of time to spend with my little terror-cat ;-)</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Well, I guess this is all I have to share right now. If there will be any sewing going on in the coming weeks, I'll let you know.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">And I'll talk to you next time.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">My little cat-friend who has been with me for 13 years has been diagnosed with severe arthritis. (The exact words of the vet: "We don't see this very often"). I noticed that his movement was slower and jumping up and down didn't go as smoothly as it once did but it's an elder cat and I thought that was just normal and age-appropriate. Lately though he seemed to be in pain at times. So I took him to the vet last friday, which actually turned into a very stressful visit for him (the cat, not the vet...) but also for me. They had to give him anesthetics to examin him. Then they decided to take x-rays and there it was, the verdict of arthritis. I wasn't completely surprised, but still....</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Now he has to be on continuous pain-medication for 30 days and then try to reduce that to every other day (at least, that's the plan for now) and I can give him special food that will help to improve his movement and reduce (or eliminate, yes please!) the pain. Sometimes the effect of that food is such that they don't need painmedication anymore. We'll see.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">He is still not his old self. Anyway, I keep a close eye on him and pamper him whenever I can.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I know these problems can come with age, but I am still in the proces of accepting that.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Or to refer to the title of this post: I find it still hard to make lemonade of all this.....</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I know some people will say "pull yourself together, it's just a cat not a human" but that's just not how it works for me. Sorry, but not sorry.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Well, you probably didn't come here to read my sad stories right? So I'll end on a positive note.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">This is a shirt I made from the old, adjusted t-shirt pattern. This time with 3/4 length sleeves. I love it! It's perfect for cooler summer weather or warmer fall weather. So I hope to get a lot of wear out of it.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I also finished the blue-white striped cardigan and am about to start on a blue summerblouse, but that will be for another post.</span><br />

quick make! The major part of the work went into adjusting this pattern for my
size. This one goes up to a size 46 but for me it needs to be a bit bigger/longer
at some places. The fact that the frontpiece has pleats makes it more of
a struggle to get it right. </span><span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">But I think I succeeded in doing so. The fit
is great. Because of the pattern placement I was limited in the amount of length I could add at the bottom. Otherwise I would have added about an inch.</span><br />

<span lang="EN-GB" style="mso-ansi-language: EN-GB;"><span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">A new project is already on the table and it is one that has been on my sewinglist for quite some time now. The idea is to make a cardigan with a nice blue-creme-striped jersey (I believe it's French terry). It's a remnant from the fabricmarket and has been in my stash for quite some time now. I still haven't cut into the fabric because the usual doubts (will it fit nicely?…) are holding me back. It would be a bummer if this project
would fail. Better go and take measurements again.</span></span><br />

originates from 2017 but I never heard of it before. My friend drew my
attention to it and I’m glad she did. If you never saw this movie: dó if you
have the chance!! It’s about a fashiondesigner in the 1950’s, Reynolds
Woodcock, played by Daniel Day-Lewis. There’s a lot going on between him, his
muse/girlfriend, his sister and his (late) mother. But there’s plenty of room
also for sewing stuff and beautiful 50’s fashion. (Apparantly Daniel Day-Lewis
learnt to make a dress in preparation of making this movie.) . The story is one you get
sucked into. It’s dreamy, but never cheesy and you are constantly wondering what
will happen in the next moment. So all in all, yeah, great movie! I really
recommend it.<o:p></o:p></span></span></div>

It's great to hear from you!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-em9Hpbjbt2M/WuwulsuhCdI/AAAAAAAAB6k/IANZakiDOcMACRuDiCN2Bkd_BWE-Kr-gACLcBGAs/s1600/100_8599.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="640" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-em9Hpbjbt2M/WuwulsuhCdI/AAAAAAAAB6k/IANZakiDOcMACRuDiCN2Bkd_BWE-Kr-gACLcBGAs/s640/100_8599.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>

</div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">In the meantime the tee is finished. Nothing complicated, just a simple project. But isn't it true that those pieces are the ones that get to be worn the most?</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I thought it would be fun to play a bit with the stripes and added a band at the bottom of the sleeves with the stripes going in the opposite direction. For that I folded a rectangular in half and sewed it double at the bottom of the sleeves. The stripes of the necklinebinding are also placed at a right angle.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>

<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4meUfujLCoA/WuwurqSQqzI/AAAAAAAAB6o/E_GH1NQNUDoRN2MccMpGCGeUhEdy1IAcgCEwYBhgL/s1600/100_8608.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4meUfujLCoA/WuwurqSQqzI/AAAAAAAAB6o/E_GH1NQNUDoRN2MccMpGCGeUhEdy1IAcgCEwYBhgL/s320/100_8608.JPG" width="320" /></a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I'll try to sneak in a little post about how I make a necklinebinding. If you are struggling with the usual method (folding a strip of fabric and sewing it double to the neckline), this method may be the one you were looking for. It works for me every time and I find its much easier. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Back to the tee. I'm happy with the fit. Basically I measured my hips, waist, bustline and upperarm circumference and changed the old pattern accordingly, including a fullbust-adjustment. There is still some bulkiness in front of the armpit. I have to look into that but for now I'm really happy with the outcome: a fitting t-shirt, but not too close-fitting. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span><span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">A new project is already in the making. It's a new version of <a href="http://illsewyou.blogspot.nl/2012/03/tnt-this-time-it-means-totally-nice-top.html"><b>an old Burda pattern.</b></a></span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I love, love, love this pattern. It suits my bodyshape very well.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">However, I have some doubts about my fabric-choice. It's a thin jersey and I'm afraid it will be too thin to hold its shape. But I'm going ahead anyway and hope it's going to work out! I would be very sad if that fabric would go to waste. I made this shirt more than once in the past and I still have the paper pattern, but it needed an upgrade in size as well. I got that out of the way so now it's time to cut into the fabric. Fingers crossed!!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">The weather is really improving here in the Netherlands and the weather forecast for the coming days is great, so it would be a waste of good sunshine to spend hours and hours in the sewingroom. But if I recall correctly, sewing this shirt is not a lot of work. So I hope to show the result soon.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Thanks for reading and talk to you next time.</span><br />

believe that it has been almost 2 years since I wrote my last blogpost. Time flies at an
incredible pace. </span></span><span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">The reason why it’s been that long? When I think about this I
come up with several reasons:</span><br />
<div class="MsoNormal">
</div>
<ul>
<li><span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I finally
landed that permanent job. But it’s fulltime, sooo... (I’m not complaning, I lóve
my new job, its awesome and I’m dead proud of finding
a job I had set my heart on and convincing my boss that I’m worth to be there
for the long run). </span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I wasn’t inspired to write about anything, felt like I had nothing interesting
to tell and no-one would miss my writing. </span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">The thought that blogging is not popular anymore. Seeing lots of bloggers stop eventually. If the 'great ones' out there are losing readers, then why should I even bother.... </span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">And last but not least, I gained some weight which caused me to think that the
things I was sewing didn’t look nice on me and I wasn't particularly keen on posting any pictures. (Yeah I know, shame on me…).</span></li>
</ul>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span lang="EN-GB" style="mso-ansi-language: EN-GB;"><span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">The fact
that I’m writing now is not a guarantee that I’m back on track,
but hey, we’ll see. At least for now there’s the intention to pick it up again. </span><span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">What triggered me is possibly the fact that lately my sewingmojo has returned with a vengeance. I’ve got lots of plans and browse the internet for fabric on a regular basis. And let's not forget the big fabric-markets we have here in the Netherlands!</span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span lang="EN-GB"><span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Another thing that has fuelled my returning fun in sewing is following fellow-sewists on social media like facebook and instagram. But most of all youtube. There are so many great, lovely, funny, educating, eyecandy youtube channels out there!! My playlist is long and gets refilled every day. I hardly watch any ‘normal’ TV anymore. If I have to describe those channels with one word it’s ‘Inspirational’.<o:p></o:p></span></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal">

Just a short post to show the second t-shirt I made with the same Ottobre pattern I used for the black-and-white shirt. I just couldn't let the stripe-trend go by without joining it. The fabric I used is maybe a bit too thick for a t-shirt (punta di roma) but all in all it is ok to wear. The stripes are darkblue and cream-coloured.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-es4qoDM1uXA/V25T24BQgqI/AAAAAAAAB2Q/pbGACCzVZPMS7FVpYHMcNf0Xq5toVMjeACLcB/s1600/100_8454.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-es4qoDM1uXA/V25T24BQgqI/AAAAAAAAB2Q/pbGACCzVZPMS7FVpYHMcNf0Xq5toVMjeACLcB/s1600/100_8454.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-es4qoDM1uXA/V25T24BQgqI/AAAAAAAAB2Q/pbGACCzVZPMS7FVpYHMcNf0Xq5toVMjeACLcB/s640/100_8454.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
The sleeve with a piece of elastic sewed on the inside. (My arm isn't as gigantic in real life as in this picture haha....)<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-zyFUNTdMSAg/V25T7qiUJjI/AAAAAAAAB2Y/-5VKNn6TQtc16kGP3uLGJEX6doeWH4VXwCLcB/s1600/100_8456.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-zyFUNTdMSAg/V25T7qiUJjI/AAAAAAAAB2Y/-5VKNn6TQtc16kGP3uLGJEX6doeWH4VXwCLcB/s320/100_8456.JPG" style="cursor: move;" width="240" /></a></div>
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-zyFUNTdMSAg/V25T7qiUJjI/AAAAAAAAB2Y/-5VKNn6TQtc16kGP3uLGJEX6doeWH4VXwCLcB/s1600/100_8456.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></a><br />
Making this shirt was not exactly a pleasant journey. About everything that could go wrong, went wrong. I even forgot to match the stripes at the sideseams when cutting the fabric. So I was very, very lucky that they did match after all. You want to be hasty and then you forget the most basic things...<br />
At first I finished the neckline the same way I did with the black-and-white shirt, but that resulted in a disaster. No matter how hard I pulled the binding, it was just too stiff to lay flat. I guess that's what Punta di Roma does for you... So I removed it and opted for a facing, using a piece of interfaced cotton. And that went on just fine.<br />
But this was one of those moments you want to throw everything in the bin. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
These are still projects I made a while ago. I desperately want to show some new stuff but I haven't found the time yet, nor the energy, to be productive sewingwise.<br />
In four weeks I'll be off from work for 5 weeks! One of the perks of working in the school-branch!<br />
There should be more action in the sewingroom then. Well, that's the plan anyway.<br />
<br />
For now, have a lovely weekend everyone!<br />

<br />
This fabric was bought with the idea of making a T-shirt. But I felt that just a plain T-shirt was not enough to do it justice. So I chose a pattern from an Ottobre magazine I've used before 2 times.<br />
A few years back I tried this pattern and was pleasantly surprised by the great instant fit. No pattern-alterations were needed at the time. What I particularly like about it is the detail on the sleeve. It's actually very simple: there's a little dart at the top of the sleeve. When you sew this together, at the same time you sew over a stretched piece of elastic. Et voilá!<br />
Simple, yet effective. I've taken a picture of the sleeve but it's close to impossible to get a clear picture. The linedrawing however is pretty clear. I don't remember if I altered the neckline when I used this pattern for the first time but mine is not as wide as it appears in the drawing.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-UnBS-F-i-C8/V2VxQCnx1yI/AAAAAAAAB2A/HJFjtRktBesC9oQlwNI2_QAqGFkbaELLQCLcB/s1600/Ottobre%2Bshirt.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-UnBS-F-i-C8/V2VxQCnx1yI/AAAAAAAAB2A/HJFjtRktBesC9oQlwNI2_QAqGFkbaELLQCLcB/s400/Ottobre%2Bshirt.jpg" width="312" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I've already worn this shirt multiple times so that makes it a winner in my book.</div>
<br />
The only thing I'm slightly worried about is that the fabric may stretch a bit over time. It doesn't feel like there's lycra or elasthan in it so that might be a problem. One of the reasons why this piece of clothing will not see the inside of my washing-machine. This will be handwashed carefully and with love. Like I do with many of my selfmade clothes. <br />
<br />
While I still have a few things to show you, I'm already thinking about a new project. A white blouse was on top of my list but today I remembered a piece of fabric that would be perfect for a top that I've sewn recently. Just have to check out if there's enough fabric to work with. If not, than the white blouse will probably be the next thing that will be made. And agáin, I will use a TNT-pattern for that. Wow. I hate tracing new patterns and I seem to have found a way to get round it. This is a habit that needs to be broken if I want to try out new things.<br />
But for now, it's a way of starting up a new project quickly so I'll stay addicted a little bit longer.<br />
There are worse things I can do.<br />
<br />
Talk to you soon.<br />

Today I received an email about my blog's activity on Bloglovin and it turns out that I now have 100 followers. The last time I checked it was about 80 so I was pleasantly surprised. And such a nice round number too :-)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
In comparison to other blogs this is maybe not much of a deal, but to me it's wonderful! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
100 persons believing that my blog is worth reading, or at least worth checking out. That's just amazing.</div>

Not blogging, but yeah..sewing. Because my dear readers, the sewing mojo seems to be back in my life. How great is that! The only problem is, and will be for who knows when: finding time to sew. <br />
With a heavy workschedule, and having to deal with householdstuff, garden etc. by myself, I find it hard to find time to sit behind the sewing-machine. But I managed to squeeze in moments to do some summer-sewing. <br />
<br />
My fabricstash is not very big and I love to go to fabricmarkets to add new beauties to the pile. Recently I spend a few hours on a big fabricmarket that was held near my town. And I was very pleased with the fabrics on offer. So many great fabrics I could see myself working with. But I managed to narrow it down to these 5 pieces.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-bB9L5NxpWWE/V1vYARZfKDI/AAAAAAAAB0g/97ZX8OBMmIoXbsShZtATZH39Q0427zJvACLcB/s1600/stoffen.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-bB9L5NxpWWE/V1vYARZfKDI/AAAAAAAAB0g/97ZX8OBMmIoXbsShZtATZH39Q0427zJvACLcB/s640/stoffen.jpg" width="477" /></a></div>
<br />
The two black-and-whites in the middle already are turned into T-shirts.<br />
With the lycra zebra-print (don't you just love it!!) I made a skirt.<br />
The light fabric in the bottom on the left, will be a nice, longer cardigan with draped pockets. A nice throw-on for cooler summerdays.<br />
<br />
The pink-ish cotton fabric I bought with the idea of making a skirt. The pattern was already chosen but I have my doubts now. Serious doubts. And as long as those doubts are there, no scissors will come near it. It's way too beautiful to mess it up.<br />
Today the July-issue of KnipMode will arrive, maybe I'll find some pattern that will be a good match for this fabric. <br />
<br />
I follow KnipMode on Facebook and Instagram and there are some really mixed emotions about the patterns they design. For me, there are still enough nice things to choose from in every issue, so I'm not complaining. It's Always nice when the new issue is due and I'm looking forward to a nice afternoon-read. Altough there is shopping to do, washing, cleaning the house and, if the rain will stop, gardenduties. <br />
<br />
I hope to post my new wardrobe-additions very soon.<br />
<br />
Have a nice weekend everyone!<br />

<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-PdeOP8vys-k/VwgH-_Q4R-I/AAAAAAAAB0E/AYMp7fnd9KoFJm8MmXd1lxITqb8OkFTZA/s1600/IMG_0185.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></a> </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-82KIWZRUA9M/VwgHybGcdCI/AAAAAAAABz8/71evtMyxI_0zxK9tYh1EkgSaRsRrby8Ew/s1600/100_8409%2B%25282%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-82KIWZRUA9M/VwgHybGcdCI/AAAAAAAABz8/71evtMyxI_0zxK9tYh1EkgSaRsRrby8Ew/s640/100_8409%2B%25282%2529.JPG" width="344" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
To complete the combo: this is the denim-skirt. Just a simple over-the-knee pencilskirt, with a nice detail at the bottom. I've used the inside of the fabric to make a contrasting band at the bottom and the white, frilly edge of the fabric to sew between top and bottom, so it contrasts with the light- and darkblue of the fabric.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This is not a completely new idea. I've made this same skirt years ago and I remember wearing it a lot. So I thought, why not remake something that once was very useful and succesful in my wardrobe. Denim can be worn with a lot of other pieces which makes it a great wardrobe-partner.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Besides that, denim is great to sew with. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I am very happy with this combo and I already wore it on different occasions. It's great for work. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
(I just wish my boots weren't behaving so badly. They are blue, which I love, and when I don't wear them they are long and have a smooth line. But when I put them on and walk a few meters, the top starts to fall down and gives them/my legs an ugly silhouette. I keep pulling them up but without success.. @%&$).</div>

This actually is the first time I post a picture in which I wear glasses. I've worn contactlenses since I was 19 years old, which makes it....uhmm...30 years now. The last year they were playing up horribly. I got new lenses but it got even worse. They were all misty and foggy, no matter how many times I cleaned them. My eyes got verry irritated and dry. At one point I put them in before I got to work and by 9am I already had to take them out cause my eyes were just hurting. So I decided to say goodbye to lenses and started wearing glasses again. I'm glad I did! And now I want my hair longer....<br />

Anyways, tomorrow the new KnipMode will be delivered in my mailbox. I wonder if I can be inspired by it to make something new. The long-awaited sewingmojo is still nowhere to be seen. Nowhere. Just don't know when or where I lost it. <br />

But let's nót end on a sad note. <br />
The weekend has started so I hope you all have a great time. Enjoy it!<br />
